Lieve vrienden en familie,
Tijdens onze stage in Kampala, Oeganda, zijn we in aanraking gekomen met Hope Hearts Ministries. Dit project ondersteunt de straatkinderen van Kampala. Tweemaal per week openen de vier oprichters hun deuren van het gehuurde schoollokaal in het centrum van Kampala voor alle straatkinderen. Dit zijn er per keer zo'n 40 tot 100. Financiële ondersteuning voor dit project komt geheel vanuit donaties en wanneer dit niet toereikend is, vanuit de oprichters zelf.
Kinderen worden aan de hand van vier speerpunten ondersteund:
- Street Outreach: het eerste contact met de kinderen op straat;
- Medisch: algemene gezondheidszorg. Daarnaast worden de kinderen ondersteund bij het afkicken van hun verslaving aan het snuiven van kerosine.
- Resettlement: na een relatie met de kinderen opgebouwd te hebben, kan er in sommige gevallen geprobeerd worden de kinderen weer terug naar huis te brengen;
- Onderwijs: tijdens de middagen wordt er door de oprichters les gegeven. Daarnaast wordt, wanneer een kind succesvol teruggeplaatst is bij zijn/haar familie, er gekeken of zij naar school kunnen gaan met hulp van iemand die hem/haar wil sponsoren.
Het eerste contact met Hope Hearts Ministries inspireerde ons direct. Ook toen wij de kinderen tijdens één van hun lessen ontmoetten, werden wij door hen met open armen ontvangen. Tijdens een street outreach, maakten wij kennis met hun dagelijks leven, wat veel indruk heeft gemaakt.
Wij willen dit project graag steunen, door ons te focussen op de vier bovenstaande speerpunten. Zo zouden wij graag onder andere een goed waterfilter, een uitgebreide EHBO kit, schriften en warme kleding voor de kinderen kopen. Een trui is in Oeganda bijvoorbeeld slechts 4 euro, dus alle kleine beetjes helpen. Wij hopen dat jullie ons willen helpen dit doel te verwezenlijken.

Dear friends and family,
During our internship in Kampala, Uganda, we came in touch with Hope Hearts Ministries. This project supports the street children of Kampala. The founders open their doors of the rented classroom in the center of Kampala twice a week for all the street children. These are 40 to 100 children every time. Financial support for this project comes completely from donations and when this is not enough, it comes from the founders.
Children are supported on the basis of four main points:
- Street Outreach: the first contact with the children on the street;
- Medical: general health care. Also, the children are supported with the rehab of their addiction to sniffing kerosene;
- Resettlement: after building a relationship with the children, in some cases it is possible to bring the children back home;
- Education: during the afternoons, the founders teach the children. When a child is successfully reunited with his/her family, the possibility of going to school with help of someone who is willing to sponser him/her is being looked at.
The first contact with Hope Hearts Ministries inspired us immediately. When we met the children during one of their classes, they gave us a very warm welcome. During a street outreach, we got to know their daily life, which impressed us a lot.
We would like to support this project, by focusing on the four main points mentioned above. For example, we would like to give a good waterfilter, an extended first aid kit, note books and warm clothes to the children. A sweater is only 4 euros in Uganda, so every little donation will help. We hope you will be able to help us accomplish this goal.

Durante il nostro stage a Kampala, in Uganda, siamo entrati in contatto con l'associazione Hope Hearts Ministries. Questo progetto sostiene i bambini di strada di Kampala. Due volte alla settimana, i quattro fondatori accolgono nella loro sede nel centro di Kampala tutti i ragazzi. Questo gruppo varia dai 40 ai 100 bambini ogni volta. Il sostegno finanziario per questo progetto proviene interamente da donazioni e, quando ciò non è sufficiente, dagli stessi fondatori.
L'aiuto dato ai bambini si concentra in quattro diverse aree:
- Street Outreach: il primo contatto con i bambini per strada, vengono portati a passeggiare per la città per uscire dal loro "buio"
- Sanità: assistenza sanitaria generale. Inoltre, i bambini sono supportati nella lotta contro la loro dipendenza: lo sniffare cherosene.
- Reinserimento: dopo aver stabilito una relazione con i bambini, in alcuni casi può essere possibile riportarli a casa.
- Istruzione: durante i pomeriggi, i fondatori insegnano. Inoltre, in alcuni casi, se vi è l'aiuto di qualcuno che vuole sostenerlo economicamente, qualche bambino può andare in una scuola della città. L' associazione facilita questo procedimento.
Il primo contatto con i Hope Hearts Ministries ci ha ispirato immediatamente e profondamente. Anche quando abbiamo incontrato i bambini durante una delle loro lezioni, siamo stati accolti da loro a braccia aperte. Durante uno Street Outreach (marcia in strada), siamo entrati in contatto con le loro abitudini e vita quotidiana, che hanno suscitato in noi emozioni molto forti.
Vorremmo sostenere questo progetto concentrandoci sui quattro grossi punti sopracitati. Ad esempio, vorremmo acquistare un depuratore d'acqua, kit completo di pronto soccorso, quaderni, vestiti caldi per i bambini che la notte dormono in strada.
Per farvi un esempio, un maglione in Uganda costa solo 4 euro, quindi ogni piccolo pensiero può essere un enorme aiuto. Speriamo che ci aiuterete a raggiungere questo obiettivo.
