At 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, the floor began to shake under the feet of many people in Morocco. An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale caused houses to collapse. Many people were affected by the disaster.
Immediate action
Red Cross relief workers swung into action immediately, providing medical aid, psychosocial assistance and first aid in the city of Marrakesh and the province of Taroudant south of the city, among others.
Difficult to reach
Currently, according to authorities, more than 800 people have died in the earthquake. The full impact of the disaster is not yet known. We are hearing from several aid workers in the area that villages are difficult to reach.
