Dear all,
We are Eva Kolkman, Nicole Schulpen and Nina Houben, fourth-year European Studies students at Zuyd University in Maastricht. In the following two and a half months we will be doing volunteer work at Maitland Cottage Children's Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.
Maitland Cottage Children's Hospital is a non-profit orthopaedic hospital that specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of children with physical disability due to disease or accident. The hospital has room for 65 children and performs over 550 operations per year. Besides educated doctors, nurses and physiotherapists who take care of the children's' medical needs, Maitland Cottage Hospital also employs several teachers, administrators and volunteers who make sure that the children are more comfortable during their stay in the hospital.
During our stay, we will be assisting the fundraiser as well as the administrator of the hospital. Besides this we have been asked to set up events for the children and work on an art room in which they can be creative and feel carefree.
