Over Ons
Wij zijn de Teratai Hati Papua Foundation, een stichting die zich bezighoudt met thema's als gezondheid, armoedebestrijding en gelijke rechten in Papoea, Indonesië. Onze stichting bestaat uit lokale medewerkers en is gevestigd in Wamena (het binnenland van Papoea).
O.a. runnen wij een jongerencentrum waarin wij uiteenlopende trainingen* aanbieden voor de ontwikkeling van jongeren in de afgelegen gebieden van Papua. Daarnaast hebben wij twee journalistenteams en een team van documentairemakers samengesteld om de dagelijkse situatie in de binnenlanden te monitoren en daarover onafhankelijk verslag uit te brengen. Door de beperkte toegang tot deze gebieden zijn er weinig journalisten van buiten Papua aanwezig, wat wij met deze teams beogen te compenseren.
Over de vluchtelingen uit Nduga District
Op 1-2 december 2018 werden 18 mensen vermoord tijdens een aanval door een groep gewapende mannen in Nduga District, Papua. De slachtoffers waren in dienst van een bouwbedrijf. Onder hen bevond zich een Indonesische militair. In reactie op deze moorden startten Indonesische veiligheidstroepen een militair offensief** tegen de vermoedelijke daders van de aanval: het Bevrijdingsleger van Papua (TPNPB), dat de onafhankelijkheid van Papua/afscheiding van Indonesië nastreeft.
De militaire operatie werd willekeurig uitgevoerd in verschillende subdistricten van Nduga, dat zich in de binnenlanden van Papua bevindt. Tijdens deze operatie werden huizen van onschuldige bewoners afgebrand en zijn meer dan 30 mensen vermoord. Bewoners ontvluchtten hun dorpen om een veilig onderkomen te zoeken. Tijdens hun vlucht door de jungle zijn drie baby's gestorven.
Momenteel hebben meer dan 32.000 vluchtelingen een tijdelijk verblijf gevonden in veiliger gebieden.***
Over het noodhulpproject van Teratai Hati Papua
Sinds december 2018 zijn ca. 2.000 vluchtelingen veilig in Wamena aangekomen. De vluchtelingen wonen bij familie en vrienden, vaak met 10 en soms zelfs meer dan 30 personen onder één dak. Vanuit de Indonesische overheid wordt aan hen geen noodhulp verstrekt.
In Wamena zijn beperkt voedsel en medische voorzieningen beschikbaar voor de 2.000 vluchtelingen. Wij proberen een gezondheidscentrum van de grond krijgen, maar tot nu toe is slechts gelukt om 100 mensen te helpen. Vrijwilligers uit de gemeenschap van vluchtelingen zelf verrichten ondersteunende activititeiten, echter is een groot probleem dat er maar één keer per dag te eten is. Zeven mensen zijn gestorven sinds de aankomst van de vluchtelingen in Wamena.
In februari 2019 heeft Teratai Hati Papua een noodschool gevestigd voor de kinderen van Nduga. In totaal 713 leerlingen hebben zich hiervoor aangemeld en ontvangen nu onderwijs (zie foto's boven). Met zeer beperkte middelen proberen wij de ontwikkeling en gezondheid van vluchtelingen te stimuleren en hun lijden te verzachten.
Voor onze noodhulpprojecten hebben wij o.a. dringend behoefte aan voedsel, medicatie, schoolboeken en een watervoorziening. Op dit platform doen wij een vriendelijk verzoek aan u om financiële hulp voor de vluchtelingen uit Nduga District in Wamena. Iedere kleine bijdrage uit Nederland voor onze projecten is zeer waardevol voor ons en wordt enorm gewaardeerd.

About Us
We are the Teratai Hati Papua Foundation. Our foundation is engaged in issues such as health, poverty and equal rights in the province of Papua, Indonesia. Our foundation consists of local employees and our main office is based in Wamena (Papua).
Among others, we run a Youth Center, which is used for trainings* to help the development of the youth in the highlands of Papua. Due to access restrictions, there are very few journalists in the central highlands. Therefore, we have also established two Citizen Journalist Groups and a Documentary Videos Group to monitor and report independently about the daily situation in the central highlands of Papua.
About the refugees from Nduga District
On 1-2 December 2018, in Nduga District, Papua, 18 people were killed in an attack of armed men on employees of a construction company. One of the 18 people was a military officer. In response, Indonesian security forces started a military operation against the suspected attackers - the Papuan military independence army (TPNPB) - in several subdistricts in the central highlands of Papua**.
The military operation was randomly executed and several houses of innocent villagers were burnt down. During the military operation, more than 30 people were killed (at least 7 civilians were reported dead with gunshot wounds). Civil societies from about 16 subdistricts in Nduga District fled from their villages, through the jungle, to search for a safer place to live. During the escape from their villages, three babies died. By now, more than 32,000 refugees have found temporary shelter in other villages***.
About the emergency project of Teratai Hati Papua
Since December 2018, around 2,000 refugees have arrived safely to Wamena. These 'internally displaced persons' (IDPs) did not get emergency assistance from the Indonesian government. They are living with their relatives and friends. Consequently, at least 10 IDPs may live with just one family, and some houses even provide shelter to more than 30 IDPs.
In Wamena, there is limited access to food, medication and medical assistance to support all 2,000 refugees. Teratai Hati Papua is trying to manage a health service point, but was only able to provide 100 IDPs with health services until now. Volunteers from the community of refugees assist with our emergency projects. However, one big problem is that the IDPs only have food to eat once a day. Since their arrival, about three months ago, 7 people have already died in Wamena.
In February 2019, we established an emergency school for the children from Nduga (see photos above). A total of 713 students joined the emergency school. Teratai Hati Papua and its volunteers are trying the best we can to increase the health and development of the refugees and alleviate their suffering, by all possible means.
For our emergency projects, we are in desperate need of food, medication, school books, strings for making traditional bags (Noken) as a form of trauma healing, a water installation and any kind of support for the volunteers in order to monitor and assist the IDPs. Therefore, we kindly appeal to you for financial support for the refugees of Nduga District who are residing in Wamena. Any small donation is very valuable for us and will be much appreciated.
