Hallo, 

Ik ben Raff Heijsen, 14 jaar en ik zit in het derde jaar van de havo op het Mondial College in Nijmegen. Komend schooljaar zal er een unieke educatieve reis naar Albany en New York plaatsvinden. Er waren vele belangstellende en inschrijvingen, maar ik heb het geluk een van de 16 te zijn die mee mag!

Waarom deze reis? Na de tweede wereldoorlog heeft Albany Nijmegen geholpen met de wederopbouw en een zusterband is zo ontstaan. De tweede wereldoorlog mag nooit vergeten worden! Het is daarom jammer dat deze zusterband verwaterd is... daar gaan wij iets aan doen! Onder andere door scholen en organisaties te bezoeken, in gesprek te gaan met leeftijdsgenoten over de oorlog, maar ook met veteranen en hun familie. Deze unieke band moet weer in ere herstelt worden. Wellicht kan hier een uitwisselingsproject uit voortvloeien, maar zo ver zijn we nog niet. Wij gaan eerst met een groep naar Amerika om te kijken of dat we deze zusterband kunnen herstellen. Ik weet zeker dat het ons, mij zal lukken. En met jullie hulp al helemaal!

Hello,

My name is Raff Heijsen, 14 years old and i’m in the third year of secondary school at the Mondial College in Nijmegen. Next school year there will be a unique educational trip to Albany, New york. There is a lot of interest and many students applied, I’m one of the 16 lucky ones that is going on this amazing trip!

Why this trip you may ask? Nijmegen was in ruines after the second world war, and thanks to Albany was Nijmegen able to rebuild itself. The second world war must never be forgotten! Because of this reason the two cities started to bond together. But this bond watered down… So its time to do someting about that! We will not only be visiting schools and organisations, but also veterans and their families. This unique bond has to be restored. This may result in an exchange from there on out, but we are not that far yet. First of all, we will go to the U.S.A to see if we can get these cities to bond once more. I’m certain that I will succeed. And with all of you’re help!
