Laat het verhaal over de Holacaust voortleven - strijd mee tegen antisemitisme en onwetendheid

In het boek Chai vertellen 18 Joodse Nederlanders over de enorme impact van de Holocaust op de rest van hun leven. Soms verbraken ze pas na decennia het zwijgen dat de hiërarchie van het lijden hen had opgelegd. Ze waren immers maar kinderen? Maar hun indringende levensverhalen laten zien dat elk soort lijden verwoestende sporen nalaat.

Tegelijkertijd biedt Chai ook hoop, want het Hebreeuwse woord chai betekent leven. Bovendien heeft het woord chai binnen de gematria de getalswaarde 18. Het getal 18 staat dus symbool voor het leven.

Wij, journalist Alice ten Napel en fotograaf Claudia Kamergorodski, vinden het belangrijk dat veel mensen deze verhalen lezen. De interviews zijn uitgewerkt, de foto's gemaakt en vormgever Piet van Os heeft een heel opvallend en uniek ontwerp bedacht. Dat maakt het boek onder andere heel geschikt voor lesmateriaal op scholen.

We hebben alleen nog geld nodig voor de vormgeving, het redigeren van de tekst en de aanschaf van recensie-exemplaren. Daarnaast willen we het boek ook heel graag laten vertalen naar het Engels en Ivriet (modern Hebreeuws).

Chai, 18 poignant stories about the Holocaust

Let the story of the Holocaust live on - join the fight against anti-Semitism and ignorance

In the book Chai, 18 Jewish Dutch people recount the enormous impact of the Holocaust on their lives. In some cases, it took them decades to break the silence imposed on them by the hierarchies who inflicted their pain. Although they were only children at the time, their deeply moving stories show how suffering can leave devastating marks.

At the same time, Chai offers hope, for the Hebrew word chai means life. Moreover, within gematria, the word chai has the numerical value 18. Thus, the number 18 symbolizes life.

We feel it is very important that as many people as possible read these stories which are the culmination of face-to-face interviews accompanied by captivating photographs. Designer Piet van Os has also come up with a very striking and unique design. These qualities, among others render the book very suitable teaching material for use in schools.

We only require donations for design, editing of the text and the purchase of review copies. We would also very much like to have the book translated into English and Ivrit (modern Hebrew).
