Will you support our adventurous road trip for this great cause?
Starting November 2nd 2019, Esther and Debby will participate in the Amsterdam-Dakar Challenge, a rally for charity. We managed to buy a Subaru Forrester for less than 500 EUR, fixed it up with the help of friends and sponsors, and will be driving 7,000 km in 3 weeks through asphalt, gravel and sand. At the end of this trip, the car will be auctioned off for this good cause! Will you follow and support our adventure?
Why we believe in education for girls
Research from UNICEF has proved that the education of women and girls has very positive effects, not just for the villages they live in, but for a country as a whole. A higher number of educated women brings progress, stability and prosperity. Moreover, educated girls are less vulnerable to sexual abuse and exploitation, and less likely to contract diseases like AIDS. Educated women have healthier children, who are better nourished. Every extra year of schooling of a mother reduces the risk of child mortality of children under the age of five with 5-10%!
What your donation will be used for
We will support the ADC scholarship programme, a collaboration between the Amsterdam-Dakar Challenge Club and two local Gambian NGOs: the Giri Gara Foundation (in charge of the auction of all the cars in Banjul on Nov 24th) and the Brighter Future Foundation, in charge of the scholarship programme locally. Depending on the amount of donations received in total, we can support:
60 EUR - primary school package for a girl
This includes a uniform, a school bag, 10 notebooks and 4 washable sanitary pads (important to avoid girls dropping out of school because of menstrual hygiene issues).
1,000 EUR - college tuition fees for 3 or 4 years for a girl
After highschool, disadvantaged girls will be supported to choose a professional education in for example nursing, teaching, agriculture or a technical profession. The costs are 300 EUR in tuition fees per year per girl, and we will support the full duration of their education, amounting to an average of 1,000 EUR per student.
If we do really well, beyond our wildest expectations, we could also support a university degree for a disadvantaged girl, amounting to 3,000 EUR per person!
We will cover our own costs for food & lodging (camping all the way :-), and our flight home. And we will keep you posted on our progress and challenges during this off-road adventure! Please follow us on FB: Team 2.0 goes Dakar!
